Called to be Friends is a program that allows volunteers through their friendship and presence to help people with needs that are often outside their physical capabilities because of illness, age, disability or life circumstance.
Volunteers commit to sharing a variety of activities with their friends on a weekly basis.
Activities may include good conversation, playing cards, letter writing, reading, crafts, shopping or helping with errands.
Who can volunteer?
Volunteers must be 18 or older and successfully pass a required background check prior to visiting their new friend.
In connecting, there is purpose. As a volunteer you have the chance to make a difference by accompanying another in their journey.
We are
Called to be Friends.
Called to be Friends encompasses two concepts:
• that each of us, regardless of faith tradition,
is called to reach out to others in need;
• that we do so with an
emphasis on the
common
but extraordinary qualities
of friendship, compassion,
trust and caring.
